this jumped out at me ... "I marveled at the security I felt in my spiritual home, even though Polly and I had no material habitation that we could call our own." how important is that to remember?! even when we have nothing we have that!

I'm so glad that you got it. My favorite quote so far is the one about Beginning and failing, and beginning again - that I put on my other blog at New Years. I'm not a big biography fan either, but when I saw this one, I knew it was one that would keep me interested.
I'm about 3/4 through and she's getting into her later life. I think it's fascinating how she is going back and kind of correcting her first writings, when she was too young to really present her ideas as she would have them remembered. The perspective of age and experience on her views/writing is really interesting (besides the fact that she has more freedom to write of Anne without her censoring Helen's writing.) She is finally able to tell the fullness of Anne's childhood hardships, her great adoration for Anne, and more fully express her appreciation for Anne's contributions and sacrifices for her.
I found this blog through a friend of a friend of a friend thing. I think a book blog is a great idea. Can anyone join in? I am currently reading the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin (which fit in perfectly with your assignment.) Thanks.
I saw you commented on my blog, which is SO awesome, but I would love to comment on yours too. I promise I'm not a 'psycho stalker', lol!! I am really bad at reading, so I don't think I'd be too useful on this blog!
