(I'm calling it that in order to differentiate it from the Dirty Book Club that I'm going to start.) We talked about several that we're going to read over the course of the year.
February: The Jackrabbit Factor: Why You Can by Leslie Householder
March: FlyBoys by James Bradley
April: A Man for All Seasons by Robert Bolt
May: The Princess Bride by Myra Immell.
June: The Captivity and Restoration of Mary Rowlandson, published 1682 originally
July: Death comes to the Archbishop by Willa Cather
August: The Greatest Generation by Tom Brokaw
September: Focus on Jane Austin (probably Pride and Prejudice)
(FYI, all 6 Jane Austin's are going to be on Masterpiece Theatre in the next month. They started Sunday with an excellent new production of Persuasion)

the book thief was amazing!!! do read it if you haven't.
i am protesting the princess bride. i loathe that movie and i can't imagine i will like the book any better.
i just finished through a glass darkly by karleen korn. excellent.
I've always like Princess Bride ok, but after I saw Stardust, THAT's my new favorite fairy tale!!! Have you seen it? SOOOOO GOOD.
yes and it was great!! i think we will have to purchase that one for our collection! you are the only person i know that has seen it. have you seen Enchanted? that one was super cute too.
I'm loving The Princess Bride, but if you didn't like the movie, you'll hate it.
I read all three books from the Twilight series again and now I've misplaced Princess Bride. I also read Letters for Emily by Camron Wright and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'll probably recommend it to the squeaky-clean book group.
Yesterday I started A Man For All Seasons. I let you know what I think and I've got Fly Boys waiting in the wings for me to be in the mood for some realistic WWII drama.
I haven't read much lately, but about 10 days ago I read Twilight and I hated it! I know, I'll probably be beat up for saying that because everyone I know loved it. I thought the conversations between belle and Edward were so borning. How many times can she tell him to please not leave her? Also, to me it was unbelievable that he was so attractive while being pasty white. I have white skin, but everyone needs a little healthy glow. And the whole icy cold touch just wouldn't be attractive to me. Yuck, get your cold white hands off of me Edward! So sorry to reign on anyones parade that loved the book. I had to force myself to finish it and I refuse to read any of the others. I don't think I could get through them. On a brighter note, I've been reading the Five Love languages or is it the Five languages of Love? I don't remember right now and the book is in the other room. I'm really enjoying it and it is so true. Everything really hits home. Has anyone else read that book? Have you had positive outcomes in your relationships because of it?
Crazymama read 5 love languages (or whatever) but I bet it works best if you can get your hubby to read it too. After all, isn't that why we usually end up reading self-help books, because we want to fix someone else? I've got a million of them (What husbands expect of wives, what wives expect of husbands, How to light his fire, how to light her fire, how can we light a fire when the kids are driving us crazy, venus and mars, you just don't understand, never be lied to again, learning to leave, bonds that make us free, finding peace in our lives, easy to love - difficult to discipline, Brain Lock, first things first, raising a thinking child, Dr. Phil's Relationship Rescue, Rock Solid Relationships, If life were easy it wouldn't be hard, reality therapy,Leadership and the art of self-deception, etc.) I can't even remember them all, but I probably got something out of each of them.
I will say that anything by Sheri Dew actually works. Also, Leadership and the Art of Self Deception and Bonds that Make us Free by Terry Warner, are my favorites!
Also, I found all 3 of my Emily Series books by LM Montgomery and I plan to start them later this week. (I have to get through an Eagle Court of Honor and YW first.)
I'm almost done with The Jack Rabbit Factor by Leslie Householder. It's definitely not a book for everyone - I think that some of the concepts are great, but it's for people who are into business and want to strike it rich. Neither have ever been my priority.
I feel I have found a kindred spirit! Someone who enjoys reading like I do. I'm tring to start a book club here where I live but it is hard to find women who enjoy reading and want to get together and discuss books. A lot want to bring their kids. Um, I don't think so. So right now there are 4 members including myself and we are reading Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale.
I loved the Princess Bride - movie and book. I have even made my older two boys watch it. I will agree with Crystal though that after watching Stardust that is my fav. fairy tale too!!
The Book Theif is wonderful. I have read it 3 times and enjoyed it each time. And the Twilight series were SO good. I can't wait for her fourth book to come out.
I've read the Five Love Languages and I made my hubby listen to them to and from work. We really liked them and it has made our marriage better. We are more aware of each others feelings, sad that we needed a book to help with that but there you have it.
oh btw thanks for commenting on my blog!
We're having a ward activity for couples based on the 5 Love Languages book. I don't know any details, but am SO curious to go & find out what we'll be doing! I'll report back.
(I think we're all LDS, so I'm assuming you all know what I mean by "ward." IF SOMEONE'S IN THE BLOGGER BOOK CLUB THAT IS NOT LDS, PLEASE ANNOUNCE YOURSELF SO I CAN BE EXPLANATORY)
We're having Book Club tonight, discussing The Peacegiver. I need to finish it by tonight! It's got a good message and some good thoughts, but they're embedded in bad, boring, mundane writing so I keep avoiding it & picking up other books instead.
um crystal you know i'm not LDS right? but i do kinda know what a ward is just from reading all these blogs!!
i have never read the twilight series either. i have heard they are great but they are not ones that i have wanted to read. any thoughts?
Kay, I say try it. I didn't think I would like them. I was bored one day and my friend brought over the first book. My first thought was "A book about vampires, right". But I read it anyway and couldn't put it down. So give it a try, it might surprise you.
Oh and I love Enchanted!!
Has anyone here read Ender's Game? If not I say we all read that book sometime.
