Book Meme

I found this book meme on my two cents,

Here are the Rules:

1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages).
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences

Let's do it!

From Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer (my husband just finished it and it was sitting on the table)...

Jacob wasn't smiling. His dark eyes were critical of my reaction."It's a little bit more powerful than that. More absolute."

"Then I heard the deep voice booming within and without my ears, coming from the universe & rising up my spine as well. It said, 'God is Light.'"

From A Vision of Light by Judith Merkle Riley. Great book about a woman in the year 1355 who wants to record her memoirs.

"Without conversation, Udell began a tale that rhymed and went along just as perfectly grand as if it came from a book, about a sad and lonesome cowboy who went to Denver to dig up a treasure chest, so he could buy his lady love a golden ring and take her to his castle in a land where the sun shone ever after. I smiled at it, but squirmed inside as the stroy went on. It was surely about him wanting to marry."

From The Star Garden by Nancy E. Turner. On my nightstand to be read next. Can't wait to start it.

Mary was eager to marry. She was thirty-seven. By contemporary standards, it was unlikely that she would bear children.

"Are we ready to go?"
In the previous moments of stupendous danger, Papa had said goodbye to Wolfgang Edel and was ready to accompany Liesel home.
"Ready," she answered.

The Book Thief.

I haven't been able to get "Days" yet. Even though I've checked my fave bookstore, Costco, and the Library. Guess I'll have to break down and go to Borders or WaldenBooks. In the mean time I've just finished Ender's Game (started it yesterday) and the boys picked up Ender's Shadow and The Book Thief for me tonight.

My computer is going in to the shop tomorrow to be cleaned. It looks like I've got some viruses brewing. I'll be back ASAP. Hopefully, I'll get these read and get my hands on Days before I get back.

Watch the mail Crystal...Good Mail is on it's way!

Supercoolmom I just wanted to let you know that the next book in the series is Speaker for the Dead. Ender's Shadow is actually book 5. I've read them all and they are very good. Hope you enjoy them!

"Yes! How was it? Was it strange? Was it wonderful?"
"It was like a dream," I answered. "I'm not sure that it really happened."

From One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus. Great book by the way. If any of you haven't read it I would pick it up. It would be great to discuss.

I finished Ender's Shadow. Loved it, but I really don't think it could stand on it's own - I kind of think that you'd be confused if you read it first. I think that my boys have read them all and picked their favorites for me to read.

I also read Rocket Boys by Homer H. Hickam Jr. It was very well written, inspiring, fun, and almost exactly like the movie based on it, "October Sky". So, if you've seen it, you won't be offended to read the book.

Today I started Star Garden by Nancy Turner and Death Comes to the Archbishop by Willa Cather. Plus a friend is bringing me The Other Boleyn Girl, and I'm a few chapters into The Book Thief. Still haven't been able to get Book of a Thousand Days. I should be able to finish it in a day - if I can just get my hands on it.

Do we want to set a day and time for a Chat about Days? Anyone know how to set up a group chat?

Hey Kay, there are about 3 or 4 small excerpts in Rocket Boys where his friend O'dell trys to teach him about "women". Not alot of detail to them, but maybe not things you want your little guy thinking about too much.(How to remove a girls bra with one hand, Valentine takes off her sweater in the car and "makes his day", etc.)
