Just Finished The Star Garden by Nancy E. Turner

Loved it!!! Of course, I loved the other two (These is My Words, Sarah's Quilt), so I was ready to love this one. My sis Julie (Crazymama) said a couple of girls in her book group didn't like it. The only reason that I can see is that perhaps she wasn't as successful in building up the romantic tension in this book as she was in the others. The romance was just a side plot, amidst the family struggles and trials of life in territorial Arizona. However, I love her characters and want to know more. She left it open for the possiblity of another book in the series, but I'd really like to see her follow one of Sarah's children, with Sarah's life as the subplot.

I have to tell you girls, this would be one in my "dirty book club" - LOL. My squeaky-clean book club outlawed These is my Words (because of the rape incident and violence), and the Twilight Series (because they are too sexually stimulating). Yeah. Obviously the definition of "Dirty Books" is quite subjective.

Well I'm about to read your dirty little book. I just picked up Sarah's Quilt and The Star Garden and I can't wait to read them!!

These is my Words is a great book. Those girls are missing out!! And give me Edwards hard chest any day!

TWILIGHT WAS TOO SEXUALLY STIMULATING??????????

Forget Edward's hard chest; I'll take Jaime's hard chest from Outlander.

Am I right Kay? Am I right? Kay? Kay?

Well, I'm not Kay but you are so right Crystal. Oh give me a Jamie. Yum!! Have you read all the books yet?? SO GOOD!!

I have read them all--except the last one. Need to read it! I read Outlander, when Max was just a little baby, in an all-night session. Literally...all night! Couldn't put it down.

I think I may go read them all again to get my Jamie dose. Gggrrrawwrrr!

Well, I guess I've got to start the Outlander series as soon as I finish the three I've got waiting for me.

Have any of you read The Other Boelyn Girl? I'm starting that as soon as I finish The Book Thief.

My real life book group is our Enrichment Group (from Church) and there are about 6 of us. One from each decade after 20. Seriously, one 20 something girl, one in her 30's, Me, a 50, 60, 70, and late 80's.

I have to say too, that Sister 89 was in there with me on Twilight! She read them all! Gotta love an old lady who's not prudish!

(so i can point out all of the discrepancy's!) :)

Hey, What do you girls think about setting a chat time once a month? Even if we didn't all read the same book at the same time, I'm sure we could chat forever on all the other books that we have in common - plus all those that we WANT to read.

BTW, I am LOVING The Book Thief. That man has a GiFt with WOrDs! At least every other page I find myself wanting to write down a phrase or description! wouldn't it be amazing to have a conversation with that man!?!

I think it would be fun to do a chat once a month. Lets get it set up! What days would work best?? and time?

The Book Thief is such a great read. I have read that book 3 times and loved it each time. I happy to hear that you are enjoying it.

Thursdays are my best night. Is night best or would day work for some of us. Works for me. Of course, like most of you - Monday is FHE, Tuesday is Enrichment, Wednesday is YW, Friday is date night, etc.

Hey Crystal, Why don't you pick a book for March. Kay you pick for April. One of my all time favorites is Expecting Adam by Martha Beck. Crystal you'll appreciate her pregnancy descriptions: "I had that pregnant glow about me, similar to the look you see on people who grew up in Chernobyl."

"Even more distressing, my mental faculties were getting duler by the minute. I felt as though my brain had been replaced with a zesty blend of oatmeal and pond scum; I had lost the capacity for intellectual analysis, and my memory, which had once been reasonably good seemed to have shut down operations altogether. After teaching - not just taking but teaching- an entire course on Caribbean culture, the only thing I can recall from the class is that the U.S. military referred to its attack on Grenada as a "predawn vertical insertion". And the only reason I remember this is that John and I took to using the phrase to describe the act that had gotten me pregnant in the first place."

Thursday nights are good for me or even Sunday nights. After kids go to bed.

I've read Expecting Adam and it is so good!

Thursdays are pretty busy for me, but honestly I don't think I could say a night that wasn't busy so don't plan around me. I'll participate whenever I can.

Thursday is our Enrichment night, and I'm the Enrichment counselor (Kay--Enrichment is ladies night in our church where we get together for activities) so I'm usually first one there, last one out.

I haven't read it, but I think I just might!! What are the other ones in the series?

I would love it if my book club had a blog together. Sometimes at our lunch we get side tracked and only end up talking about the book for 15 mintues. Oops! ;)
